-SPIKES BEGIN SET AGAINST CONNECTICUT: The State College Spikes start the second half of their six-game road trip against Stedler Division opponents tonight with a matchup against the Connecticut Tigers at Dodd Stadium. The Spikes lead the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division by 7 1/2 games over Auburn, while Connecticut is a game back of Brooklyn for the lead in the NYPL Wild Card race. The Tigers are also eight games back of Tri-City in the Stedler Division. State College went 1-2 at Lowell to start the road trip, and took two out of three from Connecticut last year at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. All-time, State College is 11-12 against the Tigers, including games from 2006-09 when the Tigers were in Oneonta and 4-2 in games played at Dodd Stadium.

-LAST GAME: Nick Thompson delivered his fourth home run of the year to help the State College Spikes to a 3-0 lead, but the Lowell Spinners came back to snare their second straight walk-off win as they defeated the Spikes, 4-3, on Friday night at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.

Thompson's two-run shot to the right-field porch in the second inning gave the Spikes their largest lead of the game. State College had scored in the first inning as well when Robelys Reyes tripled to left field and scored on Brett Wiley's sacrifice fly to right field.

However, Lowell scored twice in the second on a Deiner Lopez double and Raymel Flores single. Jordan Betts then smashed a solo homer down the left-field line to tie the game, 3-3, in the third inning.

Spikes center fielder Jhohan Acevedo threw out the Spinners' Jordan Procyshen at the plate in the fourth inning to keep the score tied, and right fielder Thompson did the same to Lowell's Bryan Hudson in the seventh to avert another threat.

In the ninth, Procyshen bunted for a base hit to lead off the inning, and Joseph Monge bunted pinch-runner Mauricio Dubon to second. Dubon then advanced to third on a passed ball while Lopez was being intentionally walked, and Hudson singled him in with the winning run one batter later.

-PONCEDELEON STARTS FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon makes his seventh start of the year and ninth overall appearance for the Spikes tonight. Last time out, Poncedeleon gave up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five over three innings against Hudson Valley, the fourth straight outing in which he allowed one run or less. The Cardinals' 2014 ninth-round draft choice has also struck out at least four batters in each of his last five outings, none of which have been longer than four innings. The Embry-Riddle (FL) University product holds a 2.25 road ERA this year as compared to a 3.97 ERA at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LADWIG HEADS TO HILL FOR TIGERS: Right-hander A.J. Ladwig makes his seventh start with Connecticut tonight. Ladwig has not lasted longer than three innings in any of his starts after being selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Wichita State. The Omaha, NE native tossed two scoreless innings at Brooklyn this past Sunday in his last outing, giving up one hit and striking out two batters. Ladwig was a First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection this past spring for the Shockers despite a 3-6 record after compiling a 1.54 ERA and 73 strikeouts over 105 innings.

-FAMILIAR FACES RETURN TO SPIKES: The Spikes were bolstered by the return of two players on Monday as right-handed reliever Josh Lucas and infielder Brett Wiley returned to the fold. Lucas, who was 5-for-5 in save opportunities for the Spikes earlier this season, came back down from Single-A Peoria to aid the bullpen. Wiley, a key cog in the Spikes' 2013 playoff push, returns from the Suspended List after hitting .337 with two homers and 18 runs batted in over 25 games with the Spikes last year.

-SPIKE MARKS: Kyle Grana's 14.09 strikeouts per nine innings are second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 48 total whiffs are tied for fourth-most among all NYPL pitchers...Will Anderson is now third in the league with a 2.22 ERA...Robelys Reyes has struck out once every 11.31 plate appearances, the third-best rate in the league...Alex De Leon is second in the league in runs scored with 36...Brian O'Keefe was hit by two pitches on Wednesday, upping his league-leading total to 12, just eight back of Tyler Gaffney's team record set in 2012...The Spikes have lost just two series on the road this year
