Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, announced Saturday that outfielder Danny Mars has been named a New York-Penn League starting All-Star, with closer Carlos Pinales and shortstop Mauricio Dubon named to the team as reserves.

The trio will represent the Spinners at the New York-Penn League All-Star festivities August 18 and 19 in Brooklyn, hosted by the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Mars, the Red Sox sixth round selection out of Chipola (Fla.) College in 2014, has been a marvel atop the Spinners line-up. The 20-year-old outfielder leads the New York-Penn League with a .352 batting average (50-for-142), reaching base in 31-of-35 games played. Mars has 15 multi-hit games and leads the team with 11 stolen bases, adding eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 16 RBI. He will represent the North Team as a starting outfielder.

Pinales is in his second season with the Spinners after posting a 2-1 record and 2.67 ERA in 13 games in 2013. In 2014, Pinales has been a force at the back-end of the Lowell bullpen with 12 saves in 13 opportunities. A native of Bani, Dominican Republic, Pinales has struck out 19 in 23.2 innings.

Dubon, a native of Honduras, came to the United States with a missionary family when he was 15. A 26th round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Dubon made his professional debut with the GCL Red Sox in 2013 and was named the best defensive players among the 2013 Red Sox draft picks by *Baseball America*. With the Spinners in 2014, Dubon is batting .279 (48-for-172) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 23 RBI, third on the Spinners. Dubon was named NYPL Player of the Week for the week ending July 27, posting a .444/.429/.667 slash line with multi-hit games in five of his seven games that week.

The trio will head to Brooklyn following the conclusion of the Spinners six-game road trip that starts in Brooklyn August 12 and ends in Hudson Valley August 17. The Spinners conclude their current six-game homestand with three-games against the Williamsport Crosscutters Saturday through Monday.
