Lowell Spinners News Release

The Spinners look to make it three-in-a-row as they welcome the Williamsport Crosscutters into town for a 5:05 first pitch.

S P I N - N O T E S:

Walk-Off Part Deux: For the second time in as many nights the Spinners were walk-off winners, as pinch-runner Mauricio Dubon again came in standing up, scoring the winning run and sending the Spinners home winners over the State College Spikes, 4-3...After C Jordan Procyshen led off with a bunt single before the more fleet of foot Dubon came on as a pinch-runner...Dubon moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by OF Joseph Monge and took third on a wild pitch...After an intentional walk to INF Deiner Lopez, OF Bryan Hudson sprayed a single to right, scoring Dubon and giving the Spinners another walk-off win.

Betts Goes Deep : 3B Jordan Betts hit his team-leading eighth home run Friday night, a no-doubter to left field to tie the score at three...Betts ' s eight home runs are the most by a Spinners player since 1B David Chester hit nine in 43 games in 2012...The home run was part of a two-hit night for Betts, who now has hits in four of his last five games.

Mars Comes Up Empty: OF Danny Mars was 0-for-4 Friday night, snapping a six-game hitting streak...Over his last six games, Mars was batting .500 (12-for-24) with five multi-hit games...Overall, Mars has reached base in 17-of-20, 29-of-34 and reached base in all but four of the games he has played...With a lefty on the mound, Mars may have found his kryptonite, as he is batting just .244 (10-for-41) against left-handers compared to a scorching .396 mark against right-handed pitchers.

Reilly Goes Five: RHP Reed Reilly allowed three runs in the first two innings Friday night but settled down to finish with three scoreless innings, finishing with a career-best five innings...Reilly limited State College to just three hits, setting a new career-high with six strikeouts, before the bullpen duo of RHP Kuehl McEachern and RHP Carlos Pinales held the Spikes to just one hit over four scoreless to set the stage for the win.

Paper Moves : With some open space on the Spinners roster following the promotions of 1B Sam Travis and RHP Oscar Perez with no countermoves, the Red Sox have used the Spinners roster to play roster musical chairs...RHP Austin Maddox, a 2012 Lowell Spinner, and RHP Jose Valdez, who has split the 2014 season between Portland and Pawtucket are both listed on the Spinners roster though neither player is with the team.

McAvoy Gets Call : With RHP Kevin McAvoy and LHP Jake Drehoff each starting in Monday ' s doubleheader at Jamestown, both pitcher ' s turn to throw is up Saturday but it will be RHP Kevin McAvoy that gets the call to start against the Cutters, with Drehoff getting an extra day and moving to Sunday...McAvoy went a career-best three innings in his last outing, limiting the Jammers to two hits while striking out one.

Playoff Chase : Despite being three games under .500 and 10.5 games back in the Stedler Division race, the Spinners find themselves just 3.5 games out of the Wild Card race, with four teams ahead of them...Of the teams running ahead of the Spinners, Lowell has a three-game set with the Wild Card leading Brooklyn Cyclones (August 12-14) and seven games with the Connecticut Tigers, who are just one-game back of the Cyclones...Working in the Spinners favor is a road heavy schedule, with the Spinners playing 14 of their remaining 22 games away from LeLacheur, where the Spinners have a 14-9 record.
