Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen, MD- In another pitcher's duel at Ripken Stadium, the Jamestown Jammers pushed across two runs in the ninth inning and took a 2-0 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds.
Alex Murphy singled in the first inning, hitting a line drive over the shortstop's head and into left field. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games with that base knock.
John Means got the start for Aberdeen and was terrific. He went five innings, allowing four hits and struck out six. He did not walk a batter and has walked just one batter all season. He would not factor into the decision.
Entering the ninth inning with the game still scoreless, the Jammers got to Derrick Bleeker. Jordan Luplow hit a leadoff infield single deep in the hole at short. Michael Suchy tried to bunt Luplow to second, but popped the bunt up. Alex Murphy caught the pop up and tried to throw behind Luplow at first, but the throw went into right field, allowing Luplow to get to second. The next batter, Kevin Krause, tripled into the right field corner. Luplow scored, giving Jamestown a 1-0 lead. Krause had to be removed from the game due to injury, and David Andriese came in as a pinch runner. Andriese scored on a Chase Simpson sac fly to right field, and the Jammers led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
Riley Palmer worked a two out walk to keep Aberdeen's hopes alive, but Hector Veloz popped out to left field to end the game.
Derrick Bleeker took the loss for Aberdeen, falling to 1-2 on the season. Oderman Rocha earned the win, improving to 1-2. Eric Karch earned his second save.
The IronBirds will look to even the series tomorrow as they will take on the Jammers with first pitch at Ripken Stadium set for 5:35 p.m.
