
Five Tigers Selected to NYPL All-Star Game

NORWICH- The Connecticut Tigers are pleased to announce that five players have been selected to the 2014 New York-Penn League All-Star Game which will be held on Tuesday, August 14th at 7:05 p.m. at MCU Park, NY; the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets). INF Joey Pankake, OF Mike Gerber, OF Ross Kivett, RHP Johan Belisario, and RHP Chase Edwards will represent the Tigers.
Infielder Joey Pankake was a 7th round draft pick in the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of South Carolina. The Easley, SC native has a .320 batting average which is the fifth best in the NY-Penn League. Pankake has two home runs to go along with 24 RBI's. Pankake is tied for second in home runs and is tied for the second most RBI's on the team.
Outfielder Mike Gerber was a 15th round draft pick in the 2014 MLB Draft out of Creighton University. The left-handed slugger is batting .290 with six home runs and 29 RBI's. The Naperville, IL native leads the Tigers in home runs, RBI, and extra base hits (22). On June 28th, Gerber had a two home run and eight RBI performance against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
Outfielder Ross Kivett was a 6th round draft pick in the 2014 MLB Draft out of Kansas State University. The Broadview Heights, OH native has a .291 batting average with one home run and 24 RBIs. Kivett is second on the team in batting average and tied for second in runs batted in.
RHP Johan Belisario was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2009. The Venezuelan native has a 4-0 record and leads the bullpen with a 0.77 ERA while only giving up three runs in 23.1 innings pitched. Belisario has recorded 17 consecutive scoreless innings. Among relievers, Belisario has the fifth lowest batting average against him in the NY-Penn League at .171.
RHP Chase Edwards was a 24th round draft pick in 2013 out of Hill Junior College. The Houston, TX native has a 4-3 record with a 3.16 ERA. Edwards longest game pitched came on June 28th at Dodd Stadium where he pitched eight innings while giving up two runs on five hits and struck out four batters. Edwards has the 10th best ERA in the NY-Penn League.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 5th season at Dodd Stadium.
