-SPIKES REGROUP TO FACE CROSSCUTTERS: The State College Spikes, who still hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race by a half-game, continue their 10th Season this evening as they welcome their SawBuck Series rivals, the Williamsport Crosscutters, to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The two teams hold the two best records in the NYPL, with 4 1/2 games between them in the Pinckney Division race entering Wednesday night. The Crosscutters sent eight players to the NYPL All-Star Game on Tuesday, with the Spikes contributing five players. Williamsport has swept all three games between the two teams this year, including two meetings at State College. All-time, the Spikes lead the SawBuck Series, 56-55, and hold a 31-25 record against the Crosscutters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: After scoring the apparent game-winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning, but having it taken off the board on an appeal play, the State College Spikes fell to the West Virginia Black Bears, 4-3, in 14 innings on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Leobaldo Pina's triple had just tied the game at 3-3 in the 13th when Jose Godoy walked to put runners on first and third with two outs. Casey Grayson then lined a ball to center field and Pina crossed the plate. However, as the Spikes' celebrations were heading back to the dugout, the Black Bears tracked down the umpires and appealed that Godoy had not touched second base. The appeal was upheld, and since no run can score on an inning-ending force play, the game continued. Christian Kelly then singled in the go-ahead run in the 14th inning for West Virginia, and although the Spikes loaded the bases in the bottom half, a strikeout and double play ended the game for good.

-EVANS STARTS FOR SPIKES: State College left-hander Jacob Evans gets the ball for his third start and 13th appearance of 2015 with the Spikes tonight. The 2015 sixth-round draft choice of the Cardinals out of Oklahoma, Evans tossed six shutout innings on Friday at Brooklyn in his longest outing as a professional. The southpaw from Broken Arrow, OK needed just 65 pitches to get through his six innings, giving up two hits and two walks in the process. Evans also struck out a career-high five batters on the night. The former Sooner is allowing left-handed hitters just a .103 batting average in his first pro season.

-CROSSCUTTERS SEND GILBERT TO MOUND: Williamsport left-hander Tyler Gilbert will make his first appearance of the year against the Spikes tonight, but is no stranger to the mound for the Crosscutters. Gilbert has earned wins in three of his last four starts, including each of his last two outings. The Felton, CA native was selected by the Phillies in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of USC, where he went 5-2 with a 2.79 ERA this spring. Gilbert has gone five innings in each of his pro victories this season, defeating Staten Island on Thursday in his most recent outing.

-SPIKES PRODUCE, BUT SOUTH FALLS IN ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes representatives Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Casey Grayson, Juan Perez and Landon Beck all made contributions to the South squad in the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, but the North won the annual showcase of baseball's future stars, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. Pina went 1-for-4 with a second-inning double as the starting designated hitter, and remained in the game for its duration. Pritchard entered in the fifth inning as the left fieder, and went 1-for-2 at the plate. The Nebraska product also scored the South's first run. Grayson, who started at first base and also stayed in the game for all nine defensive innings, went 0-for-3, but also reached base with an eighth-inning walk. The Spikes' pair of pitchers each went a single inning on the hill. Perez allowed one run on one hit, one walk and a hit batsman in the fifth. Beck needed just 12 pitches to retire the North in order, including one strikeout, in the sixth.

-SPIKE MARKS: Landon Beck is tied with Tyler Badamo, who started on Wednesday for Brooklyn against him, for the second-most strikeouts in the league with 51...Beck has whiffed 24 batters over his last 16 1/3 innings...Pedro Echemendia leads the NYPL with 19 appearances...Casey Grayson is third in the NYPL in on-base percentage at .419, and fifth in batting average with a .309 mark...Jorge Rodriguez is second in the NYPL in ERA at 2.61...The Spikes and Crosscutters have eight meetings left over the regular season's last three weeks
