Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
WAPPINGERS, NY-The Connecticut Tigers (26-28) dropped the first game following the All-Star break 6-2 at the hands of the Hudson Valley Renegades (28-28).
Designated hitter Cam Gibson got the scoring started with a solo homerun in the top of the third off the Renegades starter Benton Moss (2-2) but the lead would be short lived for Connecticut. For Gibson it was his sixth homerun of the year.
In the bottom of the third inning with Connecticut starter Matt Hall (0-1) on the mound shortstop Michael Russell (2-4, 2 R, 2B) singled to lead off the inning. With one out right fielder Manny Sanchez (2-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) launched a deep homerun to leftfield to give the Renegades a 2-1 lead.
With Chase Edwards now on the mound Hudson Valley extended their lead in the fifth and it all came with two outs. Centerfielder Angel Moreno (3-4, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI) doubled and scored on a base hit by Sanchez. The next batter was designated hitter Hector Montes (2-4, 2 RBI) who doubled home Sanchez making it 4-1.
Hudson Valley tacked on two more runs in the seventh before Connecticut added a run in the eighth on a base hit by right fielder Tanner Donnels to bring the Tigers within four at 6-2.
Hall went the first three innings surrendering five hits and two runs while striking out three. Edwards worked the next three and two thirds and struggled as he gave up seven hits and four runs all earned.
Moss pitched well for Hudson Valley as he gave up just a single run on three hits and struck out six while walking one. Both of the wins for Moss this year have come against Connecticut with the other coming on July 19th in Norwich.
Connecticut will play the second game of the two game series at Hudson Valley on Thursday. The first pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
