Cyclones Snap Losing Streak with 3-1 Win

BROOKLYN, NY (August 19, 2015) -- The Cyclones are back in the win column after beating the Lowell Spinners 3-1 on Wednesday night at MCU Park in their first game following the All-Star Break. RHP Tyler Badamo dominated and got his third win as Brooklyn jumped out in front and never looked back on the night where the Cyclones welcomed their four millionth fan to MCU Park. The win snaps a six-game losing streak as well as a seven-game home losing streak, getting the Cyclones their first home win of the month.

It was anything but a run of the mill night on Coney Island. After our 2nd Annual Civil Servant / Celebrity Softball Challenge presented by MCU, there was a baseball game to be played but Cyclones manager Tom Gamboa found himself hitting the showers before a pitch was thrown. While handing in his lineup card, the Brooklyn skipper was tossed by field umpire David Martinez. The altercation stemmed from a July incident in West Virginia, a game in which Gamboa was also ejected by Martinez.

Once the game began Brooklyn grabbed a lead early with a crooked number in the bottom of the first. Alfredo Reyes led off with a single before Will Fulmer was hit by a pitch. Fresh off an appearance in the NYPL All-Star Game, Vinny Siena tripled to right field, knocking in both runs and giving the Cyclones a two-run lead. Siena would cross home plate himself on a wild pitch and Brooklyn would finish the frame up 3-0.

In the top of the second, Lowell would get on the board with back-to-back doubles from Josh Ockimey and Tate Matheny. The Cyclone lead was cut to 3-1 but that would be the end of the scoring for the night as Brooklyn's pitching staff shut down the Spinners for the remainder of the evening.

Badamo (3-6, 3.53) was at the top of his game for Brooklyn, allowing just two hits and one run over his six innings of work. The right-hander didn't surrender a single hit after the second inning and struck out five on just 64 pitches. It was Badamo's sixth quality start of the season and the fourth time he's given up two hits or less in an outing.

RHP Craig Missigman came on in relief of Badamo and tossed a scoreless seventh inning before southpaw P.J. Conlon took over in the eighth and struck out the side in order. Conlon has pitched 13.0 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eighteen in his first season as a professional.

LHP Carlos Valdez was brought in for the ninth to close the game after Alex Palsha's appearance in the NYPL All-Star Game on Tuesday. Valdez tossed a perfect ninth, collecting his third save of the season and lowering his ERA to 0.76.

The Cyclones' next home game will be on Thursday, August 20th as they host the Lowell Spinners in the second of this two game series. It's Jersday Thursday at MCU Park and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will go home with a Cyclones pinstriped jersey courtesy of Domino's. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM as LHP Kevin Canelon (4-4, 3.98) takes the hill for Brooklyn.
