Sanchez Powers Hudson Valley To Victory Over Connecticut

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/19/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Connecticut Tigers by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday evening at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory, the Renegades have won five straight games and saw their record improve to 28-28 while Connecticut dropped to 26-28.

Connecticut took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as designated hitter Cam Gibson hit a solo home run over the center field wall off of Hudson Valley starting pitcher Benton Moss (2-2). The Renegades responded in the bottom of the third inning as right fielder Manny Sanchez hit a long two-run home run over the left field wall, giving Hudson Valley a 2-1 advantage.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Hudson Valley strung together three straight hits and scored two runs to take a 4-1 lead. Sanchez drove in a run on a single in the inning and came all the way around from first base to score on a RBI double from designated hitter Hector Montes.

The Renegades added two more runs to take a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by a RBI double from center fielder Angel Moreno and a RBI single from Montes. Connecticut scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on a RBI single from third baseman Josh Lester to cut the Hudson Valley lead to 6-2.

Moss earned the victory for the Renegades as he scattered a run off three hits in five innings of work while striking out six batters. Over his last four starts, Moss has allowed three earned runs in 23 innings pitched while striking out 25 batters.

Tim Ingram pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief of Moss and Reece Karalus struck out three batters in two innings of work while giving up a run. Connecticut's starter Matt Hall (0-1) took the loss as he gave up two runs off five hits in three innings pitched.

Notes: The two-three-four hitters in the Hudson Valley batting order consisting of Angel Moreno, Manny Sanchez and Hector Montes, combined to have a big night offensively against Connecticut. The trio went seven-for-twelve with four runs scored, four extra-base hits and six RBI. Montes has now hit safely in nine of his last 11 games played while Sanchez extended his hitting streak to five games.

Hudson Valley concludes their two-game series against Connecticut on Thursday, August 20th with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
