Cyclones Welcome 4,000,000th Fan

A new name will now go down in Cyclones history, not for his precision on the mound or his power at the plate, but for the simple act of walking through the gates at MCU Park. Brooklyn welcomed Wantagh, Long Island native Pete Mulvey to the ballpark Wednesday night as the 4,000,000th fan drawn to the 'Clones home field.

Through 15 seasons of Cyclones baseball, Brooklyn is the first New York-Penn League franchise to reach this milestone. The Boys of Summer are also one of just three short season franchises in history to reach 4,000,000 fans and have accomplished the feat faster than any other team.

Mulvey, who had no idea that the Cyclones were welcoming their 4,000,000th fan to MCU Park tonight, got a pleasant surprise as he walked through the gates, receiving a confetti shower from Brooklyn's Beach Bums and a flock of paparazzi snapping photos of the historical moment.

"It's a surprise but it feels good [to be the 4,000,000th fan]," Mulvey said. "I didn't know so I was totally surprised with glitter and everything."

Although it may be the most memorable, tonight is not Mulvey's first time being welcomed to the ballpark for a Cyclones game. Earlier in the summer, he came out to Coney Island for the numerous shenanigans that took place on Saved by the Bell Night. A former classmate of 2005 Cyclones All-Star Joe Holden, Mulvey had also come to games in prior years to cheer on his high school friend and fellow Wantagh native during his campaign with Brooklyn.

Currently a resident of Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn, Mulvey came to tonight's game with two of his roommates, who were just a few people behind him as he walked through the gates at MCU Park. Mulvey expressed his enjoyment for the Coney Island baseball classics and admitted to indulging in a corn dog from Nathan's prior to the game.

After being immediately whisked away to the field for on-camera interviews and photos, Mulvey was excited to be a part of the pre-game Cyclones pandemonium. "This has been pretty cool so far. It's kinda funny but I didn't expect this, not one bit."

Mulvey had a chance to win 4 million pennies ($40,000) after the game, but came up short in his attempt to throw three strikes before tossing four balls at our bullseye.

Such a historical night at the ballpark was rounded out by a 3-1 victory for Brooklyn over the Lowell Spinners as the 'Clones returned to their winning ways and snapped a six-game losing streak. The teams go head-to-head again Thursday night for the last of a two-game set with southpaw Kevin Canelon (4-4) taking the mound for the Cyclones.
