The series will lead into the New York-Penn League All-Star break, after which the Doubledays will head to State College for a two-game mini-series on Wednesday and Thursday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes lead the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division by seven games over Batavia, with Jamestown sitting in third place by a percentage point also sevne games back. State College has a magic number of 10 to clinch their second consecutive Pinckney Division title. -LAST GAME: Nick Thompson smashed his fifth home run of the season to help jumpstart a six-run third inning for the State College Spikes to drive an 8-2 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in front of 5,020 fans.

Thompson's two-run shot to center field gave the Spikes a 3-0 lead in the third, and State College took advantage of Mahoning Valley mistakes to score four more runs with two outs. Robelys Reyes reached base on a third strike passed ball that would have ended the frame, and Brian O'Keefe joined Jhohan Acevedo in providing back-to-back RBI singles. Brett Wiley then capped the frame with a bases-loaded, two-run single to make it 7-0, State College.

Alex De Leon started the Spikes' scoring with a first-inning sacrifice fly that gave him four runs batted in over the last two games. Thompson then added his third RBI of the contest with a fifth-inning single. Wiley, Danny Diekroeger and Kenny Peoples-Walls all delivered multiple hits for the Spikes, who collected 13 hits as a team.

-SPIKES SEND PONCEDELEON TO HILL: Right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon makes his eighth start as a professional and tenth overall appearance for the Spikes tonight. Last time out, Poncedeleon recovered from a three-run first inning to allow just one hit the rest of the way and make a five-inning outing for the first time in his pro career. Poncedeleon has recorded five strikeouts in five of his last six appearances, and the Embry-Riddle (FL) product has yielded just three walks over his last 15 innings after giving up seven in his first 13 1/3 innings. The La Mirada, CA native has not faced the Doubledays this year.

-DOUBLEDAYS TAP DICKEY TO START OPENER: Right-hander Robbie Dickey makes his fifth start for Auburn tonight. Dickey was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Nationals out of Blinn College (TX), and began his pro career with the Gulf Coast League Nationals. The Austin, TX native went 0-2 with a 12.71 ERA in three GCL appearances, but was called up to Auburn in mid-July. -SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes today announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The newly-announced extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season. On the field, the affiliation with St. Louis has been a major success for the Spikes franchise, as Cardinals' teams have produced the only winning seasons in Spikes history (2006 and 2013) as well as the 2013 Pinckney Division title and appearance in the 2013 NYPL Championship Series.

-SPIKE MARKS: Kyle Grana's 13.78 strikeouts per nine innings are second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 50 total whiffs are tied for fifth-most among all NYPL pitchers...Will Anderson is fourth in the league with a 2.31 ERA...Robelys Reyes has struck out once every 11.05 plate appearances, the third-best rate in the league...Alex De Leon is second in the league in runs scored with 37...Brian O'Keefe leads the NYPL with 12 times hit by pitch, just eight back of Tyler Gaffney's team record set in 2012
