Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats defeated the Staten Island Yankees on Friday night by a final score of 5-2, and combined with a loss by Hudson Valley, now own the best record in the New York-Penn League at 41-20.

The ValleyCats put two runs on the board early, and the pitching staff kept the Yankees in-check, as 'Cats starting pitcher Austin Chrismon earned his sixth win of the season, and is now 6-2 on the year with a 2.90 ERA.

Alex Presley, on a Major League rehab assignment from the Houston Astros, led off the ballgame with a triple to right, and scored on a RBI ground out by Jamie Ritchie.

The 'Cats scored another in the second on a passed ball by Yankees catcher Luis Torrens, to give them a 2-0 lead. Staten Island tied the ballgame in the bottom half on two doubles and a single, but that was all they would get the rest of the way.

Tri-City took the lead in the fifth after a Derek Fisher double, Terrell Joyce single, and a two RBI double by Mott Hyde to put the 'Cats up 4-2.

The 'Cats scored once more in the eighth after Jamie Ritchie tripled, and another passed ball by Luis Torrens allowed him to score.

The ValleyCats bullpen only allowed one Staten Island hit, as Brandon McNitt, Angel Heredia, and Ryan Thompson combined to pitch four shutout innings. Thompson earned his ninth save of the season.

The 'Cats and Yankees will face off again on Saturday Night at Richmond County Ballpark in Staten Island. Joe Musgrove takes the bump for the ValleyCats, against Yankees right hander David Palladino.
