The Ironbirds got pair of runs in the fourth off Lake Monsters starter A.J. Burke on a Jamill Moquete RBI double and Hector Veloz RBI single, but reliever Corey Walter allowed just one hit with one walk and one strikeout in the fifth and sixth innings to keep Vermont in the lead.

Koby Gauna gave up a leadoff single in the seventh, but got Oswill Lartiguez to ground into a 6-4-3 double play and struckout Federico Castagnini to record his eighth save in eight save opportunities this season. The win was the third in four games for Vermont (26-34), which is now 9-4 in the month of August.

The Ironbirds took the opener behind four hitless innings of relief with seven strikeouts from Luc Rennie (2-1). Both teams scored early and often as Vermont took a 3-1 lead in the second on a Seong-min Kim two-run homer and then, after Aberdeen scored four runs in the third, John Nogowski had a two-run single in the bottom of the third for a 6-5 Lake Monsters lead. The Ironbirds tied the game in the fourth, then scored three runs in the fifth to build a 9-6 lead.

The game took two hours and 57 minutes to play, making it the longest seven-inning game in Lake Monsters history (previous record was 2:42 at Connecticut on July 22, 2010). The 17 combined runs in the opener also tied a Centennial Field record for runs scored in a seven-inning game (tying a New Jersey 11-6 win over Vermont on June 29, 1999).

Vermont continues the homestand on Friday as they open a three-game series with the Brooklyn Cyclones starting at 7:05 pm. The first 1,500 students to the game will receive a free Lake Monsters pencil pouch courtesy of Heritage and the H-Team.
