Cutters rally to beat Scrappers

On a cool Friday night at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio the Cutters opened a 3-game series with Mahoning Valley with a come from behind 4-1 win.

Williamsport jumped on Scrappers starting pitcher Tim Maronde who has spent parts of the last three seasons in the big leagues for a run in the top of the first inning. With one out Jiandido Tromp and Wilmer Oberto hit back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Derek Campbell singled to left field and Tromp scored to put the Cutters in front 1-0.

Williamsport reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning off Scrappers reliever Anthony Vizcaya (1-6). Cord Sandberg and Jiandido Tromp singled to snap a streak of 13 straight Cutters being retired by the Scrappers pitching staff. Three batters later and with two outs, Derek Campbell delivered his league leading 18th double down the right field line that scored Sandberg to put the Cutters in front 2-1. Jose Pujols doubled to left field scoring Tromp and Campbell to put the Cutters in front for good at 4-1. Pujojs picked up his first hit and RBI's as a Crosscutter in his debut.

The Cutters bullpen went into shutdown mode as RHP's Bryan Sova, Ricky Bielski pitched two scoreless innings and RHP Edubray Ramos pitched the two innings retiring the final six batters for his second save.
