Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY - Tyler Eppler had the Batavia Muckdogs guessing all night long Friday night at Diethrick Park. In six innings of work, Eppler would only surrender three hits, while striking out five. He would be backed on the offensive end by third basemen Chase Simpson, who had two hits, including a solo home run, and three RBIs in the Jammers 6-0 victory over the Muckdogs. It was the Jammers fourth straight victory, and the Jammers are now 7-3 in their last 10 games, but still sit four games back of the Brooklyn Cyclones in the New York-Penn League Wild Card Race.

Simpson's solo blast would put the Jammers on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. It was his fifth home run of the year, and it would come against Batavia starter, Jacob Smigelski.

The Jammers would expand their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The big hit in the bottom of the third was a 2-RBI triple by designated hitter Michael Suchy, which scored second basemen Erik Lunde, and left fielder Carl Anderson. The other run in the inning came via an RBI single from catcher Taylor Gushue, which would score Suchy.

Jamestown would tally their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Right fielder Jordan Luplow, and Suchy would both walk to begin the inning. After Gushue grounded out, Simpson laced a double to the left-center gap to score both Luplow, and Suchy, and extend the Jammers lead to 6-0. Center fielder Elvis Escobar (3), Suchy (2), and Simpson (2) all had multiple hits to pace the eight hit Jammer attack.

Six runs of support would be plenty for Tyler Eppler. After taking a line drive off the back in the top of the first inning, Eppler settled down, used the defense behind him, and got the occasional strike out when he needed one. He picked up his first win of the season, and lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.70. Jerry Mulderig would relieve Eppler in the top of the seventh inning. Mulderig looked great on the mound, and pitched two scoreless innings, while striking out four. It was an encouraging sign for Mulderig, as he has struggled at points throughout the season. Jose Regalado would pitch the ninth for the Jammers, and toss a perfect final frame, with one strikeout.

For the Muckdogs, second basemen Mason Davis picked up two hits. Designated hitter Carlos Duran, third basemen Aaron Blanton, and center fielder John Norwood picked up the other hits for Batavia.

The Jammers and Muckdogs will square off in Batavia tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Alex McRae, the 10th round pick in 2014 out of the University of Jacksonville, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Jorgan Cavanerio of the Muckdogs.

After tomorrow night's game, the Jammers and Muckdogs will return to Diethrick Park Sunday afternoon at 4:05pm for the final game before the All-Star break, which will be Monday and Tuesday.
