Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (10-11-0-1, 21 points) defeated the Charlotte Checkers (15-9-1-1, 32 points) 3-0 in front of 5,601 fans at Cedar Park Center on Friday night. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany (3-5-0) stopped all 29 shots faced for his first shutout of the year. The victory marked Beskorowany's second shutout with Texas, as the Stars improved to 4-6-0-1 at home, breaking a five-game winless skid at Cedar Park Center. Stars' defenseman Hubert Labrie notched his first professional goal while left wing Matt Fraser added his 11th goal of the year. Right wing Colton Sceviour also scored for Texas and left wing Francis Wathier registered two assists on the night. Charlotte goalie Justin Peters (6-5-1) stopped 22 of 25 shots, as the Checkers fell to 6-6-0-1 on the road. The Stars host the Oklahoma City Barons on Saturday, December 10th at 7:00 p.m.
Texas made it on the board late in the first period. Right wing Colton Sceviour generated a 1-0 lead for the Stars with 2:22 to go. The shorthanded goal was set up by left wing Francis Wathier and defenseman Brad Lukowich for the first goal of the night.
The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 5:57 of the second period. Left wing Matt Fraser put in his 11th goal of the year with assists from Wathier and defenseman Dan Spang. The scoring continued as Texas defenseman Hubert Labrie netted his first goal of the season, giving the Stars a 3-0 lead. Forwards Travis Morin and Mike Hedden each added an assist on the play at 7:39.
The Stars continue "Sing for Santa" weekend on Saturday, December 10th with the Oklahoma City Barons at 7:00 p.m. at Cedar Park Center. The first 2,500 fans receive a Texas Stars knit cap, compliments of University Federal Credit Union. Also, fans may purchase the State Farm Family Four Pack, which includes four hot dogs, four sodas and four tickets starting at $48. Texas will travel to Oklahoma City on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 P.M.
