Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen took a 1-0 lead into the third period only to see the Oklahoma City Barons score two goals in 63 seconds on their way to a 3-1 win at the Cox Convention Center on Friday night. The Barons won their league-best 18th game of the season as Peoria failed to close out a third period lead for the first time this season (1-8-0-0).
Ben Bishop stopped the first 29 shots of the game and finished with 32 saves in the losing effort. The Rivermen (11-13-1-1) will travel to San Antonio for a game with the Rampage on Saturday night.
After Josh Green was punished with a five-minute major for a hit to Mark Cundari's head, the Rivermen were awarded with quality scoring chance late in the first period. With just 46 seconds remaining on the man advantage, Brett Sterling scored on a Danny Syvret pass at the backdoor for the game's first goal at 17:17 in the first period. Cade Fairchild earned the secondary assist to extend his assist streak to four games (six assists).
Bishop weathered the storm by stopping all 15 Barons shots in the second period to keep the Rivermen ahead into the third period.
Ryan Keller evened the score at 11:51 in the third. Taylor Chorney's shot missed the net and Mark Arcobello put a pass onto the stick of Keller in the high slot. He ripped home his eighth of the season past Bishop's blocker.
The Barons captured the eventual game-winner at 12:54 on a deflection by Tanner House. Alex Plante took a shot from the high-slot that was redirected down between Bishop's legs for the goal. Chris VandeVelde added an empty-netter at 19:31 to cap the scoring.
Peoria finished the game 1-for-2 on the power play while Oklahoma City was held scoreless on three chances. David LeNeveu stopped 20 of 21 to secure the victory.
The Rivermen hit the ice on Saturday in San Antonio at 7 p.m to face the Rampage. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
