
Sabres Recall Szczechura, Return Finley to Rochester

(Rochester, NY)... Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that forward Paul Szczechura has been recalled from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. In a related move, the Sabres also announced that they have returned defenseman Joe Finley to Rochester.
Szczechura (5'10", 186 lbs., 11/30/85) joins the Sabres on his third recall of the season. The forward has played two games with Buffalo this season and recorded two assists in his Sabres debut against Washington on Nov. 26.Szczechura also appeared in 83 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning during parts of the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, recording 16 points (9+7).
The Brantford, Ont. native, who signed a one-year NHL contract with the Sabres on Aug. 9, has played in 12 games with Rochester this season, collecting eight points (1+7). In 226 career AHL games, Szczechura has totaled 156 points (63+93) with the Americans, the Norfolk Admirals and the Iowa Stars.
The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forward Rob Bordson of the ECHL's Trenton Titans to a professional tryout.
Bordson, 23, has appeared in 17 games for Trenton this season, recording 21 points (9+12) and 16 penalty minutes and is currently tied for the team scoring lead. His 21 points on the season also rank tied for 15th in the ECHL. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Bordson spent the 2010-11 season in the American Hockey League, appearing in 61 games with the Adirondack Phantoms and 15 games with the Syracuse Crunch. In 76 total AHL games last season, he recorded 24 points (8+16) and 32 penalty minutes. Prior to his professional career, the native of Duluth, Minnesota, played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he registered 47 points (13+34) in 82 games.
