
Sharks Stun IceCaps with Three Unanswered in 4-3 Victory

ST. JOHN'S, NFLD - Tommy Wingels scored late in the third period to complete a two goal deficit comeback to stun the first place St. John's IceCaps by the count of 4-3 at the Mile One Centre on Friday evening. The two teams will battle again on Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm (est) at the Mile One Centre.
The top line of Benn Ferriero, John McCarthy, and Tommy Wingels combined for eight points and Tony Lucia scored in his second straight game for the Sharks. Tyson Sexsmith made a game saver stop with 25 seconds remaining in the contest to seal his 5th victory of the season. The Sharks improved to 3-0-0-1 on their season long seven game road trip.
The Sharks grabbed a 1-0 lead for the first time in seven games as Benn Ferriero (7th) finished off a 3-on-2 rush after a great cross wing pass by John McCarthy at 3:15 past goaltender Peter Mannino. Jimmy Bonneau (5th FM) dropped Tommy Maxwell (1st FM) with a series of rights to kick off the rough stuff at 12:59. On the next faceoff, rookie Curt Gogol (5th FM) and veteran Garth Murray (4th FM) danced at center ice at 12:59 in a quick battle. Zach Redmond (3rd) tied the score on the power play at 16:47 when his one timer from the left circle that beat Tyson Sexsmith. Worcester outshot St. John's 14-9 in the first period.
The IceCaps broke out to a 3-1 lead in the first six minutes of the middle frame after Zach Redmond's (4th) drive from the blue line on the power play at :49 seconds found the back of the net and Patrice Cormier (5th) finished a 2-on-2 rush with a snap shot through the pads of Sexsmith at 5:52. The Sharks battled back to tie the score with a pair of goals in a 1:41 span. Benn Ferriero (8th) deflected a Matt Pelech shot from the point past Peter Mannino at 13:09 after a great entry into the zone by John McCarthy. Tony Lucia (2nd) scored in his second straight game after a Nick Petrecki shot from the point missed the net and bounced off the end wall and onto the stick of Lucia, who then buried the puck home to even the score 3-3 at 14:50. Each team fired nine shots in the middle frame.
Tommy Wingels (5th) scored the only goal of the final period after he dug the puck out of the right corner in the offensive zone and found John McCarthy on top of the blue paint. McCarthy's initial try was stopped by Peter Mannino, but Wingles found a loose bouncing puck on the left side post and swept the puck in for the eventual game winner at 15:53. Tyson Sexsmith robbed Jason DeSantis' one timer drive from 30 feet with 25 seconds left with a terrific glove save to preserve the Sharks 4-3 road victory.
The Sharks record improves to 9-6-3-3 with 24 points through 22 games and to 3-1-3-2 on the road.

Tony Lucia has a three game point streak for Worcester (1-2-3)... Ben Guite returned to the lineup for Worcester after missing 12 games with a foot injury... Matt Pelech recorded his first two assists with the Sharks in his 11th game... John McCarthy grabbed three assists and now has 11 helpers this season to lead all Sharks players... with the two fights; Worcester now has 31 through 21 games this season.
The Sharks seven game road trip continues in St. John's Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm.
