
Stars fall to Rockford

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (46-26-3-4, 99 Points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (44-29-3-3, 95 Points) 5-1 Friday night in front of 6,665 fans at Cedar Park Center. Rockford center Mark Cullen scored two goals and added an assist, leading the Hogs to a victory over Texas. Forwards Bracken Kearns, Jack Skille and Matt Keith each added two points in the road win. Stars center Warren Peters scored the only tally in Texas' 13th loss at home this season. Stars goalie Matt Climie (21-17-3) made 27 saves in the loss, while IceHogs goalie Corey Crawford (25-16-2) stopped 31 of 32 Texas shots in the win. The Stars conclude the regular season in Houston on Saturday, April 10th at 7:35 PM
Rockford took an early 1-0 lead, scoring just 1:31 into the first period. Winger Jack Skille found a rebound in front of the net and sent a shot past Stars goalie Matt Climie on the gloveside.
The IceHogs took a 2-0 lead at 11:55 of the second period when forward Mark Cullen fired a shot from the high slot past Climie on the power play. Bracken Kearns and Matt Keith set up Cullen for his 20th goal and team-leading 51st point this season. The Stars cut the Rockford lead in half 2-1 with a power-play tally at 14:26. Center Warren Peters received a pass from Travis Morin at the front of the Rockford net and redirected the shot past IceHogs goalie Corey Crawford on the gloveside. Defenseman Garrett Stafford added an assist on Peters' 19th goal of the season. Rockford replied on the power play when winger Kyle Greentree beat Climie in front of the net at 18:37. The power-play goal was Greentree's 25th of the year, a team high.
At 17:34 of the third period, Cullen scored his second goal of the night, extending the Hogs' lead to 4-1. Cullen's 21st goal of the season was assisted by Keith and right wing Pete MacArthur. With 51 seconds remaining in the game, Keith scored his 21st goal of the year for the 5-1 final.
