Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose earned a 3-2 victory over the Peoria Rivermen in front of 8,493 fans at MTS Centre on Friday night. Yan Stastny, Jordan Schroeder and Mario Bliznak all notched goals for the Moose while Cory Schneider stopped 42 of 44 shots in his 59th appearance this season - the most by any goaltender in a single season in franchise history.

Yan Stastny opened the scoring for the Moose at 3:24. The former Rivermen carried the puck over the blue line, danced around a defender and backhanded the puck over Joe Fallon to put his club in a one-goal lead.

A hooking penalty handed to Tom Galvin at 9:07 put Peoria on the first powerplay of the game. Manitoba's penalty killers were sharp in their debut and didn't allow a single attempt on starting goaltender Cory Schneider.

At 12:25 the Moose extended their lead. Rookie sniper Jordan Schroeder notched his fourth goal of the season when he fired the puck down the slot and into the mesh for a 2-0 tally.

With Ryan McGinnis serving a delay of game penalty, Peoria benefited from their third man-advantage. With the visitors situated in the Moose zone, Tyson Strachan snapped the puck over Schneider to cut Manitoba's lead in half.

At 7:09 of the second period Mario Bliznak scooped up the loose puck in front of Fallon's crease and swept it around the sprawled goaltender to put the Moose back-up by two. However, 24 seconds later, Julian Talbot responded when he smacked the puck past Schneider's left goal pad to inch closer.

With 10 minutes left to play, the Moose were still leading by a goal but the Rivermen owned the shot clock 33-18. The visitors tallied 44 shots on net by the end of the game, but Schneider's reflexes were too strong to beat. As a result, the Moose earned a 3-2 victory over the visiting Rivermen with their final match-up of the season, also against Peoria, tomorrow night.
