Phantoms Sign Darcy Zajac To ATO

GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that forward Darcy Zajac has been signed to an amateur tryout contract, called up from the University of North Dakota of the WCHA.

Zajac, 23, a senior co-captain with North Dakota, posted a career-best 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) and 49 penalty minutes in 41 games played this year. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native appeared in 166 career NCAA games in four years for the Fighting Sioux, scoring 54 points (24 goals, 30 assists) and 145 penalty minutes. Zajac helped North Dakota win the Broadmoor Trophy as the WCHA champions, beating St. Cloud State 5-3 in the Final at Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis on March 20th. Zajac, who is the younger brother of New Jersey Devils forward Travis Zajac, is tied for eighth in games played on the Fighting Sioux's All-Time list and made his final collegiate appearance on March 27th in the NCAA Northeast Regional Semifinals as they lost to Yale 3-2 in Worcester, MA.

Zajac officially signed his ATO with Adirondack and practiced with the team on Thursday. He could make his professional debut with the Phantoms as they host the Binghamton Senators on Friday, April 9th for a 7:30 pm face off at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Part of a Guns N Hoses Doubleheader a local team of firefighters, policemen and EMS workers will take on the FDNY Hockey Team at 4:30 pm at the Civic Center to benefit the Glens Falls Ridge Street Fire Station 9-11 Memorial campaign.
