Peoria Rivermen News Release

WINNIPEG - Manitoba Moose goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 18 shots in the third and 42 overall in the game as Manitoba collected a 3-2 win over the Peoria Rivermen on Friday night at the MTS Centre. The Rivermen will wrap up their season on Saturday against the Moose in search of their 39th win.

Friday was the first time the Rivermen saw former captain Yan Stastny since he was traded by St. Louis to Vancouver on March 3. He was assigned to Manitoba and had just one goal in his first 14 games with the Moose until he opened the scoring 3:37 into the first period. He raced down the right wing wall and backhanded a tough-angled shot over the shoulder of Joe Fallon for his 12th of the season.

Manitoba jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 12:25 when Jordon Schroeder's shot was deflected in by a Rivermen skate for his fourth of the season.

The Rivermen power play, which was missing Jonas Junland and Lars Eller who were called up to St. Louis on Thursday, struck with just 3.1 seconds remaining in the frame. Brett Sonne's faceoff win was pushed out to Tyson Strachan by Jack Combs who fired a slapshot over the blocker of Schneider for his fifth of the season and second on the man advantage.

The two teams traded goals within 24 seconds in the second to set the Moose ahead 3-2. Manitoba regained their two-goal lead at 7:09 when Mario Bliznak wrapped a rebound around the outstretched pads of Fallon. Julian Talbot and Ryan Ryan Reaves converted on a two-on-two at 7:33 to bring the Rivermen back within one. It was the 17th of the year for Talbot which also saw Pascal Pelletier earn his team best 41st assist and 57th point on the play.

It was all Schneider the rest of the way. He stopped everything the Rivermen threw his way over the remaining 32:27 en route to his 34th win of the season. He set a new Moose franchise record by appearing in his 59th contest of the year as well. Peoria's 44 shots was two shy of the Rivermen season high and was the 11th time this season they registered at least 40 shots in a game.

Peoria finished 1-for-3 on the power play in the first period and did not have another chance the rest of the night. Their penalty kill was a perfect 3-for-3.

The Rivermen are now 2-1-0-0 against Manitoba this season who moved to within one point of the Abbotsford Heat for third place in the North Division. Peoria and Manitoba will rematch on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. from the MTS Centre.
