Stars Fall To First Place Wolves
February 22, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
The Stars suffered their second straight loss Friday night in Des Moines as they fell to the Chicago Wolves 3-1. Steve Silverthorn made only his 7th appearance of the season in goal for Iowa and played well stopping 33 of 36 shots, but it wasn't enough as the Stars managed to beat Ondrej Pavelec only once.
Chicago got out to a fast start scoring twice in the opening period on 19 shots. Jason Krog and Brett Sterling had the goals for Chicago who in addition to outshooting the Stars 19-4 in the opening period also outchanced Iowa 6-0.
The Stars picked up their play in the second period with hard skating and solid physical play. Toby Petersen got the Stars on the board as he redirected a shot out of the air past Pavelec as he crashed the net. The Stars continued to put the pressure on as they looked for the equalizer but were unsuccessful as the headed into the second break down 2-1.
The Wolves added an insurance marker at the 5:08 mark of the 3rd period as Alexandre Giroux beat Silverthorn. The win marks the 9th consecutive game in which Chicago has earned a point and moves them further into 1st in the Western Division.
The Stars will head out to Chicago on Sunday as they look for revenge in Rosemount Illinois, and will then head out on a 5 game 5 city road trip that takes them through Hamilton, Toronto, Rochester, back to Chicago and then to Rockford before returning to host Lake Erie on the 11th of March.
