Norfolk Admirals News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Jonathan Boutin made 41 saves, Jay Leach had two assists and Junior Lessard tallied the shootout winner with a slap shot in the seventh round as the Norfolk Admirals (20-30-2-4) defeated the Manchester Monarchs (24-24-4-4) 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The Monarchs claimed a 1-0 lead early in the first period. Marc-Andre Cliche sent a pass from behind the net to Richard Petiot at the top of the left circle. Petiot sent a one-timer top-shelf behind Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin at 4:15.

Manchester took the game's first eight shots. However, Norfolk scored on its second shot with a Kyle Wanvig power play goal. Jay Leach sent a centering feed toward the goalmouth from the left faceoff circle. Wanvig tipped the puck over Monarchs' goaltender Daniel Taylor's left leg at 10:04 of the opening frame.

The Admirals claimed a 2-1 lead at 7:08 of the second period on another power play goal. After Jonathan Boutin made a save on a Manchester shorthanded scoring chance, Leach got the puck up the ice to Adam Henrich along the right wing. Henrich sent a pass to Karl Stewart in the slot, and Stewart fired a shot glove-side along the ice into the net.

The Monarchs leveled the score at 2-2 early in the third period. Brady Murray sent a shot from the left circle that bounced off Boutin's mask and into the slot. Cliche found the rebound and stashed it into the goal at 5:09.

Boutin made 18 saves in the third period and overtime to deny the Monarchs the win. Manchester's David Meckler and Norfolk's Paul Szczechura each converted to leave the score in the shootout even at 1-1 through the first five rounds. Junior Lessard netted the decisive goal with a slap shot from between the circles in the bottom of the seventh round to give Norfolk the extra point.

Jonathan Boutin (43 shots, 41 saves) earned the win. Daniel Taylor (28 shots, 26 saves) was saddled with the shootout loss.

Norfolk was 2-5 on the power play. Manchester was 0-4.
