
Sharks, AHL To Raise 2009 AHL All-Star Classic Banner

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr announced that the Sharks and the American Hockey League will raise the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic Banner during a special ceremony before the Sharks host the Portland Pirates at the DCU Center on Saturday, February 23 at 7:05pm.
The commemorative banner will represent Worcester's selection to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic next winter at the DCU Center. Lehr will be joined for the ceremony by American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews, Worcester City Manager Michael O'Brien, General Manager of the DCU Center Sandy Dunn, and President of the Worcester Sharks Booster Club Rich Lundin.
The Worcester Sharks were unanimously selected by the AHL Board of Governors to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic, and were formally awarded the event at a press conference at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester on Dec. 5, 2007. The 2009 event will be the 15th AHL All-Star Classic since it was reintroduced in 1995.
The 2009 AHL All-Star Classic in Worcester will take place in early 2009. The two-day Classic will feature the AHL All-Star Skills Competition and the AHL All-Star Game at the DCU Center, as well as the Hockey Hall of Fame AHL All-Star Classic Luncheon, the AHL Hall of Fame induction ceremony, social events, community visits and other festivities.
The Sharks return home to the DCU Center for nine of the next 10 games and 19 of the final 29. It all begins on Friday, Feb. 22, for a 3-in-3 weekend, with all three games on home ice. Friday's match up features Lowell with a visit by Wally the Green Monster on GO RED Night! The Portland Pirates skate into town on Saturday and the Springfield Falcons wrap up the weekend with an 8:05pm start on Sunday the 24th.
