Abbotsford Heat News Release
Moline, IL - The Quad City Flames hosted the 2008 Genesis Jersey Auction following tonight's 6-2 win over the Peoria Rivermen. This year's events raised $32,105 as the team auctioned off specialty jerseys worn exclusively during tonight's game. The proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Genesis Compassion Fund, which raises money for many causes with a focus on providing flu shots for children in area schools. In the 13 year history of this event, the Flames have raised $560,199 for local charities.
The evening's highlights included a hardest shot contest, sumo wrestling, dodge ball and a home run derby. Eric Nystrom capped the evening by re-enacting a scene from the popular hockey film, "Slap Shot". Brandon Prust raised the highest bid at $2,500 following his performance as a figure skater. Matt Keetley, Carsen Germyn, Krys Kolanos and Brett Sutter also topped the $2,000 mark.
In addition to the on-ice performances, the team also raffled off jerseys featuring Adam Cracknell and Ryan Donally. The jerseys of Eric Nystrom and Dustin Boyd were auctioned off earlier this week at qcflames.com.
