Idaho Stampede News Release

BOISE, Idaho, February 2, 2010 - The Idaho Stampede announced today the acquisition of former NBA guard Andre Barrett.

Barrett (5-10, 175) is no stranger to the world of professional basketball. He most recently spent the 2009-10 preseason with the Cleveland Cavaliers. During the 2008-09 season he was with Regal FC Barcelona in Spain where he appeared in 14 games averaging 3.6 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

Since graduating from Seton Hall University in 2004, Barrett has appeared in 63 NBA games, including one start for the Magic, with stops in Houston, Orlando, Phoenix, Toronto, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago. In the 2006 NBA Development League Draft, the Bakersfield Jam selected Barrett with their first round pick. On October 2, 2006, he was signed by the Chicago Bulls for the remainder of the 2006-07 season. He was released the following October and returned to the Jam where he played in 30 games averaging 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game. In February, Barrett was traded to the Austin Toros where he spent less than two weeks before singing a ten-day contract with the L.A. Clippers. Later that month he was released by the Clippers and rejoined the Toros where he averaged 17.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 13 games.

"We are very happy to have Andre join our organization," said Stampede Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. "He brings a wealth of experience from his time in the NBA and the NBA D-League that will really help our team."

A four year starter at Seton Hall, Barrett averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 122 collegiate games and earned All-American honorable mention honors by the Associated Press during his senior season. Barrett finished his career with the Pirates ranking second all-time in assists (662), third all-time in three-pointers made (244) and became the school's all-time leader in minutes played (4,296) during his final game.

The Bronx, NY native will join the Stampede today and will wear #6 when Idaho takes on Sioux Falls tomorrow, February 3 in Boise. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm MST.
