Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The NBA D-League today announced that Maine Red Claws center Alexis Ajinca and forward Trey Gilder have been named to the 2010 NBA D-League All-Star Team. The game will be played on Saturday, February 13 at NBA All-Star Jam Session, presented by adidas. The game will tip off at 3 PM (ET) on Jam Session's Center Court and will be shown live on NBA TV.
Ajinca, 21, who will be unable to participate in the game due to injury, has played in 22 games with the Red Claws this season and averaged14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots in 26.0 minutes played. His 3.1 blocked shots currently ranks second in the league. Gilder, 25, has appeared in 16 games with Maine this season, averaging 14.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 32.4 minutes played. It is the first All-Star appearance for both players.
"We are extremely proud of both Alexis and Trey," said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. "They have worked hard this season and are both deserving of the honor. We know that they will represent the Red Claws well in Dallas."
Twenty of the NBA D-League's top prospects were selected to be All-Stars by a combination of fan balloting on nba.com/dleague and voting by the league's 16 head coaches. The two 10-man teams will be divided by conference with the West team playing host to the East team in Dallas. Players who have been selected by coaches and fans must be on an active NBA D-League roster to compete in the NBA D-League All-Star game.
The West Team will be coached by Iowa head coach Nick Nurse and his assistant Nate Bjorkgren, who make their second consecutive appearance in the NBA D-League All-Star Game having also coached in 2009. The East team will be coached by Rio Grande Valley head coach Chris Finch and his assistant Paul Mokeski. Both coaching staffs were selected based on their teams having the highest winning percentage by Jan. 26. Starting lineups will be selected by the head coaches in Dallas.
