Reno Bighorns News Release
AUSTIN, Texas- Playing against his former team, Rod Benson's 26-point, 14-rebound double-double lifted the Reno Bighorns to a 109-97 victory over the Austin Toros Tuesday night in the Cedar Park Center.
Benson, who played 13 games for the Toros in the 2006-07 season, finished 11-of-15 from the floor on his way to 26 points. He matched a season-best effort with 14 boards, while adding three steals, two blocks and an assist.
The two teams finished the first period of play knotted at 24, but Reno (11-14) would explode in the second quarter to take a 13-point lead into intermission. Austin (15-10) would fire back in the third quarter to carve the Bighorns lead down to just a point through three quarters, but Reno would outscore the Toros 35-24 in the final frame to pick up the victory.
In addition to Benson's effort, Reno's Desmon Farmer collected 23 points and eight rebounds on the evening. Will Blalock kicked-in 18 points and six assists.
Austin was led by 29 points from Malik Hairston. Dwayne Jones scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high 19 rebounds.
