February 2, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Springfield Armor News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA Feb. 2, 2010 - The Springfield Armor today announced that the team has picked up 6'7" forward, Justin Hawkins. Hawkins will replace recently released Major Wingate on the active roster.
Hawkins, a former New Mexico State guard/forward, was one of the Bakersfield Jam's allocation players. He scored 10.9 points and grabbed 3.9 rebounds per game for the Jam in 15 games (seven starts) this season, including a season-high 22-point performance at Los Angeles on November 29.
While at New Mexico State, the former Aggie played in a total of 132 games and earned 96 starts. Hawkins averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 rebounds in 27.5 minutes per game and finished his college career with 1,126 points in only two seasons and that mark ranks No. 16 on NMSU's all-time scoring list.
After college, Justin played in the NBA Summer League for the Sacramento Kings.
Not quite making it to the NBA yet, Hawkins went off to play for the France Pro-A League with the Besancon Basket Comte Doubs where he played in 25 games, averaging 13.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg and 2.2 apg.
In July of this past year, Hawkins played with the LA Lakers for their Summer League in Las Vegas before joining the Jam starting off his NBA D-League career.
"We think Justin will add some much-needed depth to our roster along with solid rebounding and toughness" said Armor Head Coach, Dee Brown, "We're excited to bring him on board."
Hawkins was recently traded to the Iowa Energy and will now be taking his place on the Armor roster with a hopeful start for Saturday.
Springfield will take on Austin this Saturday, February 6th in their Salute the Badges Knight, proudly presented by BayState Medical Center at 7 p.m. and again on Monday, February 8th at 7 p.m. in their Mardi Gras Celebration.
Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by logging on to www.armorhoops.com or by visiting the MassMutual Center Box Office. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9-5, Saturday, 10 to game time.
