St. Cloud Rox News Release
Thunder Bay, Ontario - The St. Cloud Rox traveled to Thunder Bay Friday to start a two-game series with the Border Cats on the road. The Rox defeated the Border Cats by a final score of 4-3.
The Border Cats took a 1-0 lead over the Rox in the bottom half of the second inning as Philip Lyons stole second base and Jason Vosler scored off an error by the Rox' catcher.
St. Cloud's Adam Martin hit a lead off single to get the bats going for the Rox in the top of the fourth but was caught stealing second for the first out. With two outs on the board Chris Paul kept the inning alive with a single and followed stealing second. Vincent Jackson hit a single to then score Paul from second tying the game up 1-1.
It was not until the top of the sixth when the Rox would take their first lead of the game 2-1 over Thunder Bay. Tim Colwell was the lead off batter in the sixth posting a triple and scored on a single by Martin for the Rox lead.
The Rox came back in the top of the seventh continuing to battle as Charlie Morgan led off earning a walk on nine pitches. Devin Pearson would come into the game pinch running for Morgan and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single by Clay Williamson and a stolen base would put two runners in scoring position for the Rox. With an intentional walk of Bradley Strong the Rox saw the bases loaded and no outs. Martin was hit by a pitch taking first and scoring Williamson for a 3-1 lead with the bases loaded. The Border Cats would commit an error on the next play allowing the Rox to score another run making it a 4-1 game.
In the bottom of the ninth the Border Cats would post two runs off a double but were stopped at that for a 4-3 win in the Rox favor.
On the mound for the Rox was Eric Nyquist as he pitched 7.0 innings of work and recording the win. Also seeing action was John Oltman for 0.2 innings and Reese Gregory for 1.1 innings. Gregory also tallied the save tonight making that his third of the season.
