Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
It took twenty days to finish the never ending game between the Lakeshore Chinooks and the Madison Mallards. The game started on June 22nd and stalled at a score of 3-3 after the 16th inning. The city of Mequon states that no game can begin an inning after 11:00 PM.
Game play resumed at the top of the 17th inning and continued back and forth until the top of the 21st inning. With two outs, Mike Reuvekamp launched a two run home run to give the Mallards a 5-3 lead. The Chinooks tried to claw back in the bottom of the 21st but could only stir up one run falling 5-4. A total of 43 players played in the 21 inning game.
After a brief break, the night continued with the second game. Coming into Friday, the Mallards trailed the Chinooks 1 1/2 games for the top spot in the South. Madison took control from the start scoring three runs and recording two triples in the 1st inning for an early 3-0 lead.
The Mallards continued to hit in the top of the 3rd inning. With runners on the corners, a two out RBI single tacked on another run for a 4-0 lead.
The Chinooks got going in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Andrew Stevenson (LSU) led off the inning with a triple to right center. The following batter Mike Papi (Virginia) knocked in the Chinooks first run of the game with an RBI ground out making the score 4-1.
Right when the fans thought a comeback was brewing, Tate Matheny made the score 6-1 with one swing of the bat launching a two run home run down the right field line in the top of the 4th.
Madison continued to convert as they put their first two batters of the top of the 6th inning. After a wild pitch advanced the runner to third base, an RBI ground out wrapping up the scoring and giving the Mallards a 7-1 win.
Eddy Morgan stated, "It was just a tough day for us, that's baseball. We have done a good job of flushing it and getting back at it the next day." The Mallards now take a 1/2 game lead in the South Division.
The Chinooks (7-3) look to get back on track against the Mallards Saturday at 6:35 PM. Saturday is Star Wars Night at Kapco Park!
