Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, WI- July 12th, 2013. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are excited to announce that five players from this year's team have been selected to represent the Rafters in the 2013 Northwoods League All-Star Game. The Rafters five All-Star selections tie the Madison Mallards for the most players representing their team in the South Division. Catcher Jackson Slaid (Montevallo), outfielder Donnie Dewees (North Florida), outfielder Jonathan Moroney (Texas A&M), right-handed pitcher John Kravetz (Illinois) and right-handed pitcher JP Feyereisen (UW-Stevens Point) were selected as members of the South Division team. The All-Star Game is set to take place on Tuesday, July 23th at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Slaid joined the Rafters this summer after completing his junior season at Montevallo. The 5'10", 205 pound Slaid has made a quick impact on his summer team by posting a .301 batting average (37-for-123) and .411 on-base percentage, with seven doubles, nine home runs, and 33 RBIs. His nine home runs tie him with fellow All-Star teammate, Donnie Dewees, for most home runs in the South Division and his RBI total ranks him third in the South. Slaid is also among team leaders in a variety of categories including home runs (T-1st), RBIs (1st), hits (3rd), and average (4th).
Dewees came to the Rafters this summer after an impressive freshman season for North Florida. The 6'0", 200 pound freshman picked up his summer season right where he left off in the spring. Dewees currently carries a .336 batting average (47-for-140) with a .400 on-base percentage and 34 runs scored, nine home runs, 31 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. His batting average currently ranks him second in the South Division to Madison's Drew Weeks, among all qualifying leaders with at least 2.7 plate appearances per team game. Dewees is also among Rafters team leaders in several offensive categories including home runs (T-1st), hits (1st), runs (2nd), RBIs (2nd), and stolen bases (2nd).
Moroney joined the Rafters in the middle of June and has provided a consistent bat for manager Jake Martin during the first half of the season. The 6'2", 200 pound Texas A&M product currently leads the Rafters in batting average with a .350 mark (36-for-103), while contributing 18 runs, eight doubles, four home runs, 20 RBIs and a .368 on-base percentage. He ranks second on the team in RBIs to fellow All-Star teammates Slaid and Dewees.
Kravetz joined the Rafters this summer after completing his sophomore campaign for the University of Illinois. The 6'4", 215 pound right-hander has started six games for the Rafters this summer, compiling a 3-2 record with a 2.81 ERA. In 38.1 innings pitched, he has allowed only six walks while striking out 35 batters. Kravetz' strikeout total currently ranks him sixth in the South Division.
Feyereisen came off an outstanding season for UW-Stevens Point in which he was named WIAC Pitcher of the Year and has not looked back. Feyereisen made a seamless transition from a starter in the spring to the Rafters bona fide closer this summer. In 17 appearances, spanning 23.2 innings, he has allowed only 14 hits and six walks, while striking out 29 batters. He carries a 3-1 record with a sparkling 0.76 ERA and eight saves into the weekend series against Eau Claire. The sophomore right hander's save total ties him for second best in the Northwoods League and puts him just one away from tying a team record set by 2012 All-Star Seth Fuller.
