Spokane Begins Playoff Preparation

The Spokane Chiefs will begin practice on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at Eagles Ice-A-Rena in preparation for their first round playoff series versus the Portland Winterhawks.

The series will begin in Portland Saturday and Sunday with games three, four and, if necessary, five being played in the Spokane Arena on Wednesday, March 24th, Friday, March 26th and Saturday, March 27th. Spokane holds home ice advantage after finishing the regular season as the fourth seed in the Western Conference.

The match-up will be the seventh time the two franchises have met in the post-season. Four series, including their last three against each other, have gone the distance. The Winterhawks won a nine game series in 1985-86 while the Chiefs won in 1996 after they came from a 0-3 deficit. Portland won in 1998 while the Chiefs took game seven in 2003.

The Chiefs finished the regular season with a 3-5 record against the Winterhawks and earned a 4-0 win on March 5th in Portland, their last meeting of the year. In the eight game series, each team scored 23 goals in regulation, but only a combined nine power play goals. Spokane's Player of the Year Mitch Wahl led all scorers in the series with six goals and seven assists.
