
Blades Hand Out The Hardware

The Saskatoon Blades, in partnership with Northridge Developments held the team's annual Awards banquet this evening at the Dakota Dunes Event Centre.
12 players were acknowledged for their outstanding efforts on and off. Stefan Elliott was the big winner receiving 5 awards. Elliott was named the Blades Most Valuable Player with 26 goals and 39 assists for 65 points as well as the most gentlemanly award winner for collecting only 24 Penalty minutes in 72 games. The North Vancouver, BC native was also named Defenseman of the Year, the Inland Steel 3 Star Award winner, and shared the team's +/- award with a +41 with Derek Hulak.
Along with sharing the +/- award, Derek Hulak took home the team's top scorer award with a personal best of 31 goals and 53 assists for 84 points this season. Derek also received the Community Minded Award for his participation in the Blades project faceoff drug awareness program and for his contributions as the Children's Wish Foundation point man which saw him raise $4,200 this regular season. Finally, the 20 year old product was this year's recipient of the Jackie MacLeod Award, a $2,000 bursary given to a graduating player to help assist with the costs associated with pursuing a post-secondary education.
Four rookies took home hardware as Duncan Siemens was named the rookie of the year, Tyler Kizuik earned Scholastic Player of the year honours, Brent Benson was deemed the hardest working Blade, and Dalton Thrower was named the team's Diamond in the Rough.

The Blades focus will now turn to the playoffs as they will take this week to prepare for their Quarter-Final opponent, the Red Deer Rebels. Games 1 & 2 vs. the Rebels will take place at credit Union Centre Saturday march 20th and Sunday March 21st, with puck drop slated for 7;05pm.
