Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires got off to a great start and never looked back cruising to a 6-3 victory over Saginaw on Family Day. A great crowd of over 3200 were on hand at the WFCU Centre to watch their Spitfires emphatic win.

In the first period, the Spitfires controlled the pace and puck possession, they only gave up two shots in the period. It took almost nine minutes but the Spitfires were able to break the deadlock first. Currie fed the puck to Henault who skated zone to zone before passing it to D'Amico who sniped his 12th on the year. Just four minutes later the Spitfires were able to double their lead. A beautiful defensive play by Baisov who stole the puck off the Spirit and chipped it off the glass for Jodoin. He then skated in across the line and made a nifty pass to Perrott and he fed the puck back to Jodoin cutting to the net who chipped in his 4th goal of the season. The Spitfires had a 2-0 lead after the first period and led in shots 13-2.

In the second period, the Spitfires offensive onslaught continued. Just a minute and a half in, Cuylle fed Henault at the point who passed it across the slot to Johnston who shot it on net and it bounced in off a couple bodies to put the Spitfires up 3-0. It was Henault's 100 career OHL point! Fourteen minutes later the Spitfires got on the board again. Renwick held the line and passed to Cuylle down low who then turned and passed it back door to Henault who sniped his 7th on the season. Saginaw responded late in the period to make it a 4-1 game heading into the intermission.

In the third period, Zito scored his 16th on the season just thirty seconds in with assists from Cuylle and Johnston. Just two minutes later, Christopoulos in front of the net banged home his 8th of the season and gave the Spitfires a commanding 6-1 lead. Late in the third, Cuylle got a 5 minute penalty sneind the Spits to the PK for the rest of the game. DeAngelis was then called for a cross-check and the Spitfires were 5 on 3. The Spirit scored on the 5 on 3 powerplay and then again on the 5 minute major making it a 6-3 game. The final minute dwindled down and the Spitfires won to improve to 3-1-1-0 against the Spirit this season.

The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday at home vs the Kitchener Rangers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
