Saginaw Spirit News Release
Windsor, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit (16-28-1-0) travel across the border for a Monday afternoon tilt with the Windsor Spitfires (24-13-2-3) at WFCU Centre in Windsor. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
Head-to-Head
Today marks the fifth of seven meetings this season between the Spirit and the Spitfires. Saginaw won the first two meetings between the two teams with a sweep of a home-and-home series in late November. The Spits have won the last two games, including a wild, 7-5 win over the Spirit on Dec. 17. The last meeting took place 11 days ago at WFCU Centre, where the Spits were victorious by a 4-1 score.
Last Time Out
Saginaw: On Saturday night, the Saginaw Spirit hosted the Sarnia Sting in the game where the Spirit were hoping to close in on the eighth and final playoff spot, currently held by the Sting. Sarnia jumped out to 5-0 lead, but Saginaw would score three straight goals in the third to put the pressure on Sarnia. Nolan DeGurse earned his first four-point game (2G, 2A) in his OHL career. Pavel Mintyukov (9), Ian Phillips (3), and Josh Bloom (21) scored for the Spirit in the 6-3 loss.
Windsor: Saturday evening, the Spitfires completed a home-and-home series with the West Division-leading Flint Firebirds at The Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan with a 3-2 shootout loss. Windsor did not trail in the game until Samuel Assinewai scored the shootout winner in the eighth round. Ryan Abraham (6) and New York Rangers prospect Will Cuylle (28) scored for the Spitfires. Windsor has earned at least one point in each of the last four games. They trail the Flint Firebirds by seven points and the second place Greyhounds by six heading into action today.
