Forgettable Family Day Extends Attack Losing Streak to 7
February 21, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Owen Sound Attack News Release
A dismal month of February continues for the Owen Sound Attack, as they dropped a Family Day matinee affair 7-1 to the Guelph Storm.
Heading into the contest, the Attack had won the previous 5 meetings between the Midwest rivals, but had also been on a 6 game losing streak as well. Either way, one streak was going to end, and unfortunately for Owen Sound it wasn't the losing streak, now extended to their last 7 games.
It was game where the Attack never could find a solid footing to create offence, struggling consistently with to get quality looks on net. The Storm for their part jumped out to a lead within the first 5 minutes of the game, and never looked back, adding a pair more before the buzzer sounded at the end of the first.
It looked like Owen Sound found some light early in the second, as Stepan Machacek banged home a rebound opportunity on the power play, tot cut the Storm lead to 3-1. It took less than 2 minutes for Guelph to regain their 3 goal lead, when start Sasha Pastujov blasted home his own power play goal on a 5-on-3. The home Storm would completely pull away with a third power play marker of the game shortly after making 5-1, before finding the back of the net twice more before the periods end, taking a 7-1 lead into the final 20 minutes.
Owen Sound will have a chance to get revenge on the Storm later in the week, when the teams meet at the Bayshore for the Woolley's Warriors charity game night. The Attack are back in action Wednesday night at the Bayshore when they welcome another Midwest rival in the London Knights.
