Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Bulldogs looked like a family unit facing off against the Erie Otters this afternoon. Coming off their heated affair Saturday night against the Kingston Frontenacs the Bulldogs looked to extend their win streak to four and win their 11th of 12 in the team's second meeting in just 4 days.
Lawson Sherk started the scoring early in the opening frame as he danced through the neutral zone to cut through to the slot and rifle a shot past Nolan Lalonde for his 9th of the season at 2:32 with Lucas Moore picking up the helper. The fourth line for the Bulldogs came out strong with the Hamilton native Ethan Sims going low blocker to recording his 1stof the season and as a Bulldog off the pass of Cole Brown and help of Brenden Anderson at 6:52 to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Settling down with under 6 minutes left to play the Otters capitalized on a bounce off one of the Bulldogs skates to score their first of the game courtesy of Taeo Artichuk at 14:38 to cut the Bulldogs lead in half. Less than 3 minutes left a scramble in front of the Bulldogs net sent Giordano Biondi off for a shorthanded breakaway resulting in a penalty shot but Nolan Lalonde stood tall to stop the shot to keep the game at 2-1. At 19:14 Gavin White got the puck to Nathan Staios who's shot deflected finding Logan Morrison backdoor while on the 4 on 4 to give the Bulldogs the 3-1 lead heading into the second period.
Coming off the high of the late Morrison goal the Bulldogs started off strong while on the 4 on 4, as that expired the Otters were left to a powerplay. Capitalizing once more off a bad bounce of a Bulldogs player the Otters went off to a 2 on 0 to get one passed Matteo Drobac with Saginuk converting the Bressette pass making the game 3-2. With the Bulldogs on the power-play, Logan Morrison would thread one of the most spectacular passes of the season to Ryan Winterton, splitting 4 Otters players to give Winterton his 11th of the season at 2:58 with Staios picking up the secondary helper to give the Bulldogs a 2-goal lead. Hamilton added to their lead at 17:52 with Morrison finding Arber Xhekaj open in slot converting on a bullet of a shot to bubble the lead to 5-2. After 40 minutes of play the Bulldogs lead the Otters 5-2 and 21 shots to 18.
Looking to keep the bench fresh and keep from a repeat of Friday's tight third period, the Bulldogs bench moved line combinations around and players like Ethan Sims, who was enjoying his best game as a Bulldog, saw plenty of ice in the final frame. Just as a Bulldogs powerplay ended Hamilton added another with Ryan Humphrey picking up his 14th of the season, tipping home a Gavin White shot from the right point while Lawson Sherk added a secondary assist at 12:27 to make it 6-2. To close things out Lucas Moore ripped a shot past Lalonde for his 2nd of the season at 14:47 with the play being set up by Brown and Humphrey.
The Bulldogs finished the game 7-2 for their 4th straight win, with Matteo Drobac stopping 21 of 23 and pushing his record to an incredible 12-1-0-0 on the season.
The Hamilton Bulldogs are back Friday February 25th to face off against the North Bay Battalion at 7:00 at the FirstOntario Centre.
