Oshawa Generals News Release

The Oshawa Generals defeated the Niagara IceDogs 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at Tribute Communities Centre.

From the start of the game to the final whistle, Oshawa put forth one of their most complete performances of the season.

"I thought we were really good for a full 60 minutes tonight," head coach Todd Miller said about his team's performance. "We were strong on the puck and never stopped playing our game."

Rookie Calum Ritchie kick-started the Generals off with the opening goal late in the first period, finding a loose puck in the crease and firing it home to make it a 1-0 game.

The Generals would then explode for five goals in the second period, the first four of which coming within four minutes of each other.

Niagara's Dylan Roobroeck would respond for the IceDogs, but Matthew Buckley would score his eighth of the season a few minutes later to give the Generals a five-goal lead once again.

Oshawa wouldn't let up in the third period, as just 30 seconds into the final frame, Brett Harrison would score the seventh goal of the game for the Generals, all but securing there would be no comeback in this one.

Stuart Rolofs would score later in the third for his fourth point of the night, and Danil Gushchin would get a late one for the IceDogs, as the Generals walk away with a massive 8-2 victory on Family Day.

Patrick Leaver was a steady presence in the Oshawa net, stopping 19 of 21 shots he faced for his 17th win of the season.

"Everyone came to play today. We were ready to go off the hop and played the way we need to if we want to be successful in the long run." said head coach Todd Miller.

The win moves the Generals to 24-17-1-4 on the season. Their 53 points has them currently in 5th place in the Eastern Conference as they continue to gain ground on the teams above them in the standings.

Oshawa will have a few days off from game action before returning to the ice on Thursday night in Peterborough to take on the Petes at 7:05 pm.
