Kitchener Rangers News Release
*** Part 1.1 - UTF-8
The Kitchener Rangers headed down Highway 401 to take on The London Knights for a Family Day matinee. We were looking to bounce back from a hard battle with Sarnia on Friday night.
Only 28 seconds into the game, London got traffic in front of Pavel Cajan and scored to get out to the early 1-0 lead. 30 seconds later, Mike Petizian snapped a shot five-hole to tie the game, 1-1. Kitchener made a late push at the end of the period, but could not beat London's, Brett Brochu. Pavel Cajan was also stellar, stopping 15 of 16 shots faced. We looked to jump out and grab the lead in the 2nd.
Early in the period, the Rangers were generating some offensive chances when Matthew Sop took a high-sticking penalty. London was not able to capitalize on the powerplay. Just after, Adam Zidlicky tapped a goal in to give us the 2-1 lead. Late in the 2nd period, we were given a four-minute powerplay after Francesco Pinelli took a high stick to the face. We applied pressure hard on the powerplay, but could not capitalize. Despite having two goals called back, we took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period.
London tied the game just one minute into the period. The Rangers immediately responded as Ty Hollett scored on a seeing-eye shot from the point, giving us the 3-2 lead. 15 seconds later, Reid Valade capitalized on a semi-breakaway to extend our lead to 4-2. Midway through the period, London scored to get back within one, making it 4-3. With five minutes remaining, London tied the game again, 4-4. Regulation would solve nothing, so overtime was needed.
In overtime, Reid Valade scored his second goal of the game to give the Rangers the 5-4 win.
Our next game is Thursday, February 24th at 7:30 p.m. in Windsor.
