State College Spikes News Release
STATE COLLEGE, PA - The State College Spikes were held to four hits on Tuesday night as the Hudson Valley Renegades took the rubber match of a three-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, 4-0.
The Spikes (2-3) broke into the hit column in the fifth inning with Chris Rivera's single up the middle and infield hits from Anthony Ray and Danny Martin. However, a groundout ended the heaviest offensive surge of the night for State College.
Vince Jackson notched the other Spikes hit, as he singled and stole second in the sixth before being stranded.
Hudson Valley (3-2) took the lead in the fourth when Blake Butera's bases-loaded fielder's choice plated two runs. The Renegades then tacked on another run in the sixth on Daniel De La Calle's RBI single. Angel Perez, who collected six hits in the series, then knocked in the final run with a ninth-inning fielder's choice.
Former Penn State infielder Jim Haley continued a strong series in his return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with the Renegades. Haley went 2-for-4 with a walk, and produced six hits over the three-game set.
Spikes starter Bryan Dobzanski (0-1) went six innings on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. The right-hander also struck out two batters in his State College debut.
Hudson Valley right-hander Spencer Moran (1-0) earned the win with five innings of three-hit ball. Moran also yielded two walks while striking out four batters.
Reliever Porter Clayton (1) got the save by hurling the final four innings. Clayton gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two batters.
The Spikes now hit the road for their first extended trip away from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this season. State College will visit the Batavia Muckdogs (Miami Marlins) for three games before traveling south to face the West Virginia Black Bears (Pittsburgh Pirates) in a three-game series.
The road jaunt begins on Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Muckdogs in the 2016 opener at Dwyer Stadium. Right-hander Dailyn Martinez (0-1) will start on the hill for the Spikes. Batavia will go with right-hander Reilly Hovis (0-0) on the mound.
