Brooklyn Rallies For 8-3 Win On Tuesday Night

BROOKLYN,NY - Who knew that baseball games could last only nine innings? After what seemed like an endless loop of extra inning contests to begin the season, the Cyclones were able to defeat the Tri-City ValleyCats in regulation on Tuesday night, running away with an 8-3 win. Making their professional debuts Colby Woodmansee went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI and Gene Cone added a 2-for-4 effort with three runs driven in to pace the Brooklyn bats.

Starting pitcher Erik Manoah made his first start of the 2016 season on Tuesday evening and quickly found himself in trouble as the ValleyCats scored single runs in each of the first three innings to take an early 3-0 advantage. But the righthander settled down and limited the damage, giving the Cyclones a chance to claw back against the 'Cats. And Brooklyn would erase the three run deficit in their turn at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. Darryl Knight and Woodmansee drew back-to-back walks to start the threat and Dan Rizzie reached to load the bases with nobody out. That's when Gene Cone, making his professional debut, slammed a double down the right field line to clear the bases and knot the game at 3-3.

It stayed that way, and Cyclones fans had visions of extra innings dancing in their heads, but Brooklyn put their minds at ease with an offensive explosion in the bottom of the seventh, to take control of the game.

It all started when Jay Jabs singled on a ground ball to left field , then advanced to second after Nick Sergakis walked. Knight then singled on a ground ball to shortstop loading the bases before Woodmansee connected on a two-out, two-RBI single that gave Brooklyn their first lead of the night. Rizzie then followed with a two-RBI double to push the Brooklyn lead to 7-3 and late came around to score on an infield single from Cone that capped the scoring and gave Brooklyn and 8-3 advantage.

Making his 2016 Cyclones debut, Raul Jacobson (1-0) tossed 4.0 scoreless frames, allowing just a pair of hits and a walk to collect his first win in affiliated baseball.

The Cyclones improved to 2-3 on the young season, and will head on the road to take on the Connecticut Tigers for a three game series in Norwich, CT. The Cyclones will return to Brooklyn to take on the Hudson Valley Renegades on Saturday, June 25th featuring post-game fireworks..
