Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
STATE COLLEGE, PA-- For the second consecutive night, Hudson Valley's pitchers were dominant as they kept State College off the scoreboard en route to a 4-0 win Tuesday night at Medlar Park at Lubrano Field. With the shutout, Hudson Valley pitchers extended their scoreless innings streak to 18.
The Renegades got the scoring started in the second. A walk, a single and then a bunt single loaded the bases with one out when second baseman Blake Butera grounded into a fielder's choice to shortstop. On the play, third baseman Jim Haley scored from third as did designated Jon Popadics from second to give Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead.
The visitors added an insurance run in the sixth. With two out and no one on, centerfielder Oscar Rojas doubled to center. The next hitter, catcher Danny De La Calle, singled to center to score Rojas and extend the Renegades lead to 3-0.
In the ninth, rightfielder Angel Perez picked up his third RBI of the season. With the bases loaded and one out, Perez grounded into a fielder's choice to short brining in shortstop Joseph Astacio to give Hudson Valley the 4-0 advantage.
From there it was all Renegades pitching. Starter Spencer Moran (1-0) went five scoreless on three hits while walking two and striking out four to pick up the win. Reliever Porter Clayton followed Moran with four more innings of shutout ball, allowing a hit, a walk and striking out two to earn Hudson Valley's first save of the season.
For the third consecutive night, the Renegades banged out double digits in hits. Seven of the nine batters chipped in on the 12-hit attack. Rojas led the way going 3-3 with a walk and a run scored. Haley, Astacio, and first baseman Nathaniel Lowe chipped in with two hits apiece. Haley and Astacio scored runs as well.
State College was held to only four hits for the game and five over the last two. Starter Bryan Dobzanski (0-1) took the loss for the Spikes, though he pitched well allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six frames.
Hudson Valley returns home tomorrow to take on Lowell in the first of a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Righthander Garret Fulenchek will go for the Renegades against a yet to be determined pitcher for the Spinners. For tickets, call 845-838-0094 or go to hvrenegades.com.
