San Antonio Missions News Release
ROUND ROCK - Cory Spangenberg produced his first career multi-homer game, drove in three runs, and make a spectacular run-saving catch in the outfield to lead the Missions to an 11-6 win over the Round Rock Express Thursday night at Dell Diamond.
The win moved San Antonio back into first place by a half game over the Express.
Tyler Saladino and Tyrone Taylor also collected three hits each and drove in three runs apiece, as the Missions matched their season high with 15 hits.
Spangenberg had played 845 career games between the minors and the major leagues and had never hit more than one homerun in a game. His performance extended a hot month of May that has seen hit him .355 while recording a 1.009 OPS. He has also hit safely in six straight games while producing six extra base hits during that stretch.
Jimmy Nelson made what was likely his final rehab start with the club. The right-hander cruised thru four hitless innings before running into a wall in the fifth.
Nelson was charged with five hits and four runs in the frame before being replaced by Jake Petricka (1-1) with two out and the bases loaded.
Petricka got Yordan Alvarez to line to right to end the inning, preserving a 7-4 lead at the time.
The two teams wrap up the four game series on Friday night, after which the Missions will head to Memphis to begin a six-game series.
NEXT: Zack Brown (1-3, 5.40) vs. TBD 7:05 PM
