EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Three-point shooting and a big second quarter helped the South Bay Lakers defeat the Iowa Wolves, 143-132, on Monday night at the UCLA Health Training Center.

South Bay (3-2) made 19 three-pointers in the game and broke open a close game in the second quarter by outscoring Iowa (1-5), 47-32, in the period.

The Lakers' starting five all finished in double figures and Javante McCoy came off the bench to score 27 points. The Wolves were led in scoring by two-way Luka Garza, who made his first appearance with the Wolves in more than a month and finished with 31 points.

Minnesota Timberwolves assignment players, Wendell Moore Jr., and Josh Minott scored 24 and 17 points, respectively. Moore Jr. just missed his first-ever points/assists double-double as he handed out a career-best nine assists.

D.J. Carton continued his stellar play with 17 points and 10 assists. CJ Elleby and Emmanuel Mudiay scored 17 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench.

The second quarter proved to be insurmountable for Iowa, which could never pull any closer than nine points to South Bay after halftime. The Lakers led by as many as 19 points late in the second and held a 14-point advantage at halftime (81-67).

Iowa has one final road contest this trip visiting the Ontario Clippers Thursday night. Tipoff is 9 p.m. CT and the game will be on ESPN+.
