
Salt Lake City Drops Contest to Rio Grande Valley to End Homestand

Salt Lake City - The Salt Lake City Stars (2-4) were unable to grab a win in their final match-up of their four game homestand, as the Stars fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-5) at the Maverik Center, 128-122.
The Stars were led by Frank Jackson who had a game-high 34 points, along with one rebound and two assists on 7-of-11 shooting from behind the arc and 13-of-17 from the field. Jeenathan Williams contributed 25 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Stars. While center Tyler Cook led the team in rebounds with 13 and added four assists and eight points. Stacy Davis notched 19 points off the bench to go with 10 rebounds and five assists.
Salt Lake City kept the game close in the first quarter, finding themselves down by single digits as the Stars entered the second frame 31-23. Rio Grande Valley would go on to double their lead midway through the third quarter. However, Jackson put on a show shooting 5-of-9 from three, chipping in 11 points. The Stars rallied for their final run bringing the deficit to only four points before falling 128-122 to the Vipers.
While the Stars were not able to grab the victory, they did outscore the Vipers 68-66 in the second half and also led 9-0 in second chance points.
All five of the Vipers' starters scored in double-figures. Trevor Hudgins paced Rio Grande Valley with 30 points and eight assists, while Cassius Stanley and Jalen Lecque both added 19 points respectively. Houston Rockets assignment player Ty Ty Washington tallied 22 points and seven assists.
The Stars now head on a two-game back-to-back road trip to take on the Birmingham Squadron (Jan. 13 and Jan. 14). Both games can be streamed online at 6 p.m. MT on gleague.nba.com.
