Clippers Take Down Squadron In Home Opener

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Clippers (3-3), the NBA G League affiliate of the LA Clippers, defeated the Birmingham Squadron (1-6), 106-97, on Monday night in their regular season home opener.

Nate Darling followed up his career-high 37-point performance on Friday with a game-high 22 points off the Clippers bench (8-13 FGM). Moussa Diabate contributed with a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double. Diabate added three blocks on the night.

LA Clippers assignee Brandon Boston Jr. filled up the box score with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Fellow assignee Jason Preston finished the night with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.

Seven Squadron players recorded double-digit scoring, led by Kelan Martin's 19 points (6-15 FGM). Zylan Cheatham, Daeqwon Plowden, and John Petty Jr. each scored 12 points in the defeat.

After leading by as much as 14 in the second quarter, the Clippers conceded a 20-9 run allowing the Squadron to close the gap to three heading into halftime. Ontario responded by coming out of the break scoring seven unanswered to increase their advantage back to double digits.

Birmingham made things interesting down the stretch, taking a three-point advantage mid-way through the final quarter, but the Clippers regrouped to finish the game with a 14-4 run to seal the victory.

Next up, the Clippers look sweep the two-game set in a rematch against the Squadron on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm PST inside the Toyota Arena.
