NASHVILLE â The Nashville Sounds' longest homestand of the year concludes this weekend with a four-game set against the Tucson Sidewinders, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The series begins on Thursday, July 10 and runs up to the All-Star break on Sunday.
The series kicks off on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. with Randy Johnsons making a surprise visit to Greer Stadium. Since the real Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks will not be making a rehab appearance at Greer Stadium, area Randy Johnsons have been invited to throw out first pitches.
Also on Thursday, 10 people having a chance to win a pair of Jet Skis that can be used to cruise down the Cumberland River. The finalists will have been chosen from listeners on 105.9, entrants at Mapco locations, and fans at the game. Following the game, the 10 contestants will each be given a key and take their turn trying to start the jet ski. Only the winner will be successful.
Thursday's game is another Thirsty Thursday, offering fans $1 draft beverages until the end of the fifth inning. In addition to these promotions, it is Shedd's Spread Country Crock Pack the Park Night. Fans can turn in the top of a Country Crock product at the Greer Stadium box office and receive up to six free "best available" tickets for the game. As if these reasons weren't enough, it is also Harris Teeter VIC Card night. Fans who show their Harris Teeter VIC Card will receive one free ticket when purchasing one ticket of equal or greater value at the box office
Friday, the Sounds will pay homage to one of the best players to ever don a Nashville jersey. Willie McGee bobbleheads will be handed out to the first 2,000 fans through the gates for the 7:00 tilt. McGee, who played at Greer Stadium in 1980 & 1981, is the third former Sound to have a bobblehead giveaway in 2003, following Rob Dibble and Magglio Ordonez.
The ZOOperstars return to Greer for Saturday night's 6:00 game. See favorites like Shark McGwire, Clammy Sosa, Harry Canary, and Pee Wee Geese perform throughout the game. Following the game, stick around for a fireworks display. Saturday also marks team's first Summer Reading Club day. Reading Club participants that have reached their reading goals have the opportunity to see a baseball game and march in a parade on the field during pre-game warm-ups.
Also on Saturday, it is Governor's Highway Safety Office Child Safety Seat Night. Officials will be on hand to inform parents about the proper child seat procedures and determine if their child's safety seat is properly secure.
The homestand and series with the Sidewinders concludes on Sunday with another 6:00 p.m. contest. It will be fourth of five Faith Nights at the ballpark. Christian recording artist Jeremy Camp, of such songs as his number one hit "Understand" and other songs like "I Still Believe" and "Walk By Faith," will be on hand to perform a pre-game concert near the first-base entrance, beginning at 4:30. Also on Sunday, all fans will have an opportunity to meet and greet some of their favorite Sounds during an autograph session that starts at 5:25 and lasts between 15-20 minutes.
